RB Leipzig are looking to extend the contract of captain David Raum, which currently runs until 2027.
“To be honest, a contract extension is naturally something we are thinking about,” RB Leipzig sporting managing director Marcel Schäfer told Sport Bild.
“He fits perfectly with us, always gives his heart on the pitch and is far from finished with his development.”
As part of the extension, the club hope to remove the release clause in Raum’s current contract.
While the clause was set at €50 million for the last transfer window, it will drop to a much lower amount next year, according to Sport Bild.
With Raum, 27, having previously expressed a desire to play in the English Premier League, the question remains whether Leipzig can convince the left-back to stay.
“We’ve of course discussed his perspective and his goals. He has never expressed a desire to leave. I feel maximum mutual respect,” Schäfer stressed.
